In an interview just given with Megyn Kelly, the new US Secretary of State:
“The reality on the ground… The dishonesty that has existed. We somehow led people to believe that Ukraine would be able, not just to defeat Russia, but to destroy them and push them all the way back to 2014.
Meanwhile, Ukraine is being set back 100 years. Their energy grid is being wiped out. Someone is going to have to pay for all this reconstruction…
The President’s view is this needs to end. It needs to enter a negotiation. That’s going to be the work of hard diplomacy, which is what we used to do in the world.
At least we have a President who recognises: our objective is this conflict needs to end. And it needs to end in a way that’s enduring.
What we have been funding is… maybe even worse than a stalemate. One in which, incrementally, Ukraine is being destroyed and losing more and more territory.”

I have been arguing this for well over 18 months.
One was not allowed to acknowledge this in British media for the entirety of 2023. There was an omertà around diplomacy. I hope editors will reflect on this, and why this was not allowed to be said sooner.
Update: Yellow line = when I was arguing strongest for diplomacy – and no editor would listen:
The British media and military intelligence might as well have been Putin assets for the way they've forwarded Russian power. Abysmal from start to finish. Well done for reporting.
